News Story: Fire Destroys Hardware Store
Owned by Owen Dorsey Vandenbark

According to an article appearing in the Hamilton Daily Democrat on Thursday, 18 January, 1894, a fire broke out the night before in Dresden (population 1,500), a town about 10 miles north of Zanesville, in Muskingum County, Ohio. The fire began in the Hardware Store of O.D. Vandenbark and destroyed several other buildings. Adjoining communities were telegraphed for aid. The loss, which was partly insured, totalled $10,000 and fell mainly on Vandenbark and L.S. Cassidy.
